About Me – Marth Murakami, Founder of Avid K9
Hi, I’m Marth Murakami, the founder of Avid K9. My journey into the world of dog training began in Japan, where I trained under my uncle, a respected expert in service dog training and the rehabilitation of fearful dogs. Under his guidance, I developed a passion for understanding canine behavior and a commitment to helping both dogs and their owners thrive.
My interest in animal behavior began even earlier. While in high school, I took an Animal Science course at East Valley Animal Shelter, where I learned firsthand about shelter operations, dog behavior, and the realities of animal surrender. Shortly into the program, I realized that many dogs were surrendered not because they were “bad,” but because owners weren’t taught how to train, guide, and understand them. That experience pushed me toward a lifelong mission: educating owners so dogs can stay in their homes and live happier, healthier lives.
Over the years, I’ve worked with dogs from all backgrounds, including rescues from challenging situations such as the Chinese meat market and shelters in Mexico. These experiences strengthened my dedication to compassionate, effective, and relationship-focused training.
Beyond hands-on experience, I’ve spent years studying canine nutrition, behavior, and grooming, learning from trainers, behaviorists, and professional groomers. This well-rounded knowledge allows me to support dogs holistically, from communication and behavior to physical health and coat care.
I am based in North Hollywood, California, where I help owners build trust, communication, and engagement with their dogs. My training style is play-driven and relationship-first, designed around understanding each dog’s natural instincts and unique genetic needs. By creating strong foundations through play and clarity, I help dogs develop into balanced, confident companions who thrive both at home and out in the real world.
At Avid K9, my mission is to provide personalized, effective training that meets the physical, emotional, and behavioral needs of every dog. Whether you’re navigating behavior challenges, building confidence, or strengthening your bond with your dog, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
My Training Philosophy
Unlike traditional training methods that rely solely on food rewards or corrections, I use a relationship and play-based approach to help dogs learn in a way that is natural, engaging, and effective. My training is designed to:
✔ Strengthen trust and communication between you and your dog
✔ Make training fun and rewarding through structured play
✔ Teach practical life skills for real-world success
✔ Build confidence in dogs of all ages and backgrounds
My goal is not just obedience but real-life reliability, ensuring that your dog listens and responds in any situation
